Dendritic crystals ampouled under argon.
Strontium, in common with its periodic table neighbor barium, is one of those elements that is difficult to prevent from tarnishing. It oxidizes very rapidly in the air. The metal is bright silver when freshly cut, but it darkens and starts to develop a film of white oxide literally within seconds of being exposed to the air. When it solidifies, strontium forms pronounced crystals which give the metal an almost fibrous character. These needle-shaped structures are evident in this sample.

Celestite.
Celestine or celestite, from the Latin coelestic (celestial) is an important ore of strontium. It is transparent to translucent, displaying a range of colors and forms, with blue crystals, as in this specimen, being one of the most aesthetic. Celestine colors a flame red due to its strontium content.
