Backyard Classic 2000

Libertyville, Illinois, June 10-11, 2000

This year's Backyard Classic was held at the boyhood home of Heather's husband George, located in Libertyville Illinois.
In keeping with the name of the event, it had a lovely cool backyard (Click on any of the small pictures below to get a big version in a separate window):

As usual, we don't have any pictures from the first event, Obedience, as it started on time.
Actualy, we do have one, a leaper of Sue and Roy:

We also don't have many pictures from the conformation show, as I have decided that they always come out dead boring.
(OK, there are a few, but I'm not going to put them up front here: See the picture archive below if you want to look at them.)

Of course since this was a Backyard Classic, we have to have a picture of Sailor with his Best Of Breed prize, same as every year:

Note that this year the Best of Breed trophies were made by our resident blacksmith, JimZim.  See his Toller Art page for more Toller stuff.

Speaking of Sailor, here are two more pictures of him, one artsy and one smiling:

Addie had a great time helping out:

Mike and Jodi have a new baby!  It hasn't been eaten by dogs yet, though it does lie down with them:

The next day was field day.  This year we had a new photographer on duty, using our spare camera:

She liked the horse that came to visit, so she took a picture of it.
Also of people who came by to say how cute she was.
Click here to see the other 65 pictures she took.  She is developing a style that appreciates the natural
beauty of her surroundings, so you will find many pictures of grass, sky, etc.

The bugs were pretty bad: There were rumers of bug spray opportunists offering it at $20/spritz.
The Petry baby was initially protected, but later not: No explanation was offered, so we assume he had developed resistance.

Sunny almost passed her WC, and she was really fast as usual.  If we had gotten her to the bumper toss, she would have
won hands down.  (Her speed comes from having to outrun Hickory all the time, and Hickory, of course, lost last year's
bumper toss by only FIVE ONE HUNDREDTHS OF A SECOND):

This wasn't what disqualified her:

Hickory did pass his WCI for the second time.  He looked especially good waiting for the other dogs to finish their work:

Eric and Susan stood around looking like people involved in Tollers (note the license plate):

Addie fit right in hanging out:

To see the best pictures from both days (a total of about 50), click here (a page of thumbnails will open in a separate window, click on any thumbnail to see a full size version open in a separate window).

To see all the pictures, use our Backyard Classic 1999 Picture Archive, which contains about 500 pictures from the show. (Please note that picture assignments are not perfect. If you don't see a picture under the name you expect, try looking it up by date instead. If I took it, it is there.)   As with all our pictures, the URL includes the names of the people/dogs in the picture: Your browser probably displays the URL in a line at the top or bottom of the window, so you can tell who is in the picture.

Our full-site Picture Archive contains a far larger number of pictures, including more of the same people you'll see in the Backyard Classic archive.
